Wheeeeeeeeee.
June 29, 2007
I'm still not back to 100% computer-wise, but I did get a chance to finally finish the filler
comic I wanted to put up last week. In addition to trying to rebuild my computer and my
custom settings, my body decided it was a good time to catch a summer flu / sinus thing.
Needless to say, I've been pretty worthless, aside from the whole mopey and achey thing. I've
got that shit down to a tee.
Lest you think I was full of nothing but piss, vinegar, and NyQuil, I
did at least want to get today's comic up. And yes, it's exactly what I went through about a week
ago. Sure, I knew that the Wii was fighting stock and availability issues. When it was first released.
Like a million years ago. I honestly didn't expect it to be that much of an issue to get the
system and a handful of games, but boy was I proven wrong. I'd say by the seventh phone call I made,
I was actually wished luck in finding one. And it was a sincere wish. As if the sales person
herself wanted someone to be able to embody all the fun that would come from the Japanese import.
My last resort was to go through Wal-Mart's online catalog. They promised that
if you were seeing the option to order, then they had the item in stock. Not quite the iron-clad guarantee and
immediate satisfaction I was hoping for, but I ordered a bundle that came with the Wii, several games, a second
controller, and a charging station. Sure enough, the shipment arrived just in time with my flu.
Score one for the giant business monopoly. They certainly seem to have plenty of stock online, just not
at your average everyday local storefront.
I'll admit it. I expected the Wii to be a gimick, a simple magic wand with smoke
and mirrors that was more dazzle than substance. And I guess in a way I still sort of feel that way. Some
aspects of the Wii games are obviously and purposefully converted to having to move the Remote as
opposed to simply pressing a button. Even so? It's fun as hell! It'll certainly never become
my dedicated gaming box. With limited 480i graphics and a decidedly family-friendly catalog of titles, I
definitely won't be unplugging the XBox 360 in favor of the Wii. But, it will fill the niche perfectly for
the fun party titles that Nintendo is always known for.
